An LGBT activist who saved up for a year to buy a ticket to the Grammy Awards ended up being mistaken for a member of Lady Gaga‘s entourage and met a host of celebrities backstage.

David Kilmnick, the CEO of the LGBT Network in New York, managed to put away $4,000 to buy a back-row seat at the glamorous ceremony inside Madison Square Garden.

His ticket, however, included the privilege of a walk on the red carpet at the start of Sunday night’s show.

He made the most of this perk, according to Page Six, by hanging around for an hour and a half while stars wandered by.

When he was finally forced to go into the venue, Kilmnick said he somehow got swept into an elevator with Sting, Shaggy, Andra Day and what appeared to be Lady Gaga’s team.

He then got out of the elevator with the illustrious group and found himself backstage.

Kilmnick soon experienced a ‘Holy s***’ moment as Lady Gaga herself walked past – and he also caught a glimpse of John Legend, Rihanna and DJ Khaled.

He said: ‘I dropped away and I was just standing there taking in the workings of an award show – I saw the hair-and-makeup people going to dressing rooms.’

But he capitalized on his good fortune by snapping selfies with Andra Day, Cyndi Lauper, DJ Khaled and Gianluca Mech.

After wandering about some more, the activist was then moved towards the arena’s VIP seats just in front of the stage. Pictured: Lady Gaga at the event

He even asked asked Lauper if she would play at his Long Island Pride festival.

After wandering about some more, the activist was then moved towards the arena’s VIP seats just in front of the stage.

He explained that he ‘didn’t want to get up’ – and even pretended to be taking a call so that he seemed to belong there.
