Following her highly acclaimed 2016 album Joanne, Lady Gaga has kept quiet about her upcoming sixth studio album. Fans have received a few subtle hints — “Applause” producer DJ White Shadow described her next work as the “little sister” of Gaga’s album ARTPOP, and Gaga herself previewed a Frankenstein-themed track for fans at an Indianapolis tour stop last year — and recently, footage of Gaga in the studio has been circulating.
Now, fans have received another close-up look at the “Born This Way” singer in the studio, wielding a baton and the power of a full orchestra. Producer and songwriter Mark Nilan Jr. posted a soundless video of Gaga conducting a full orchestra on Instagram Saturday (June 16), saying that fans can now “add conducting to the long list of her [Gaga’s] skills.”
The producer added that the orchestra was brought into the studio to record a song for Gaga, when she and her team decided to add one more song for them to record, and wrote an arrangement for them in an hour. “We wrote this orchestra arrangement in an hour. With pencil and paper. I literally wore thru 4 pencils,” he wrote on Instagram. “Have yet to come across anyone that can pull that off these days… And it sounds EPIC.”
Fan immediately began speculating in the comments about the songs. Some asked whether or not this song was for Gaga’s next album, or perhaps for the soundtrack to the singer’s upcoming film A Star Is Born. Others were quick to point out that it’s unlikely a track would get so hastily added to the soundtrack of a major motion picture.
More fans questioned the timing of the upcoming release, as Nilan Jr. posted a photo of himself with Gaga in December 2017 with the simple hashtag “#2018RadioIsOurs.” Many attributed his message to the soundtrack of A Star Is Born, but now that the producer has shared footage of Gaga in the studio, fans are wondering if the star’s next album could be out later this year.
